Biography of Rosemary Chukwu Onumaegbu
Rosemary Chukwu Onumaegbu, also known as Sis. Rosemary Chukwu, is a renowned Nigerian gospel musician and worship leader. She is widely recognized as the queen of Igbo gospel music. She was born and raised in Enugu State, Nigeria.
Her music career began at the age of six, when she became a professional drummer in a local gospel band called the Chukwu Players, which was headed by her father. The Chukwu Players were one of the biggest gospel bands in Enugu State at the time.
She studied music at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) College of Music, where she graduated with a degree in Music Education with First Class Honours. During her time there, she was awarded the Matt Chadwick Award for Excellence on May 4th, 2013 for her work in promoting music education through music.
The release of her album Chim Na EmeN’Mma (My God does good things) in 2014, is noted as having solidified her position in the music industry, earning her the “Best Igbo Gospel Album of the Year” at the MEGA Awards. She is also known for other songs like Ibu Chukwu Ibu Gi Madu and Nnam Nara Ekele.
